Review: Deep Work by Cal Newport

Still the best argument for treating attention as a finite professional asset — even if the tactics have aged unevenly.

Reviewing: Deep Work — Cal Newport★★★★

The claim: the ability to focus without distraction is becoming rarer exactly as it becomes more valuable.

What holds up: the core economics. A decade later, the scarcity argument has only strengthened; the people I know doing the most valuable work are all, in some form, hoarding attention.

What aged: the tactics chapter reads like it was written before remote work. Time-blocking survives; the grand gestures mostly don’t.

Verdict: read it for the argument, improvise your own tactics. Four out of five.
